The Almadrava settlement was originally formed by fishing families from nearby villages, who fished using the almadrava technique, which consists of installing a labyrinth of nets between boats, where tuna get trapped during their migrations. The first houses were built in the 1920s, imitating the Valencian 'barracas'.
The abandonment of the purse seine fishery meant the place ceased to be a fishing village and became a tourist centre. From the 1950s onwards, several housing developments were built, adopting a very distinctive Ibiza-style. The small chapel of Sant Jaume dates from this period.
