Rock paintings

Rock paintings

Ancient cave paintings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are nestled in a scenic ravine, but remain closed to the public to preserve their cultural significance.
The rock paintings of the Vilella ravine are located 7 km from the town of Tivissa. At the bottom of the ravine there is a large clearing where the Vilella spring is found, probably the site that became the nucleus of the first inhabitants of the territory (Neolithic). In this area there are three caves containing rock paintings: the Ramat Cave, the Pi Cave and the Cingle Cave. In another area is the Taller Cave, located on the south-eastern slope of the Serra de la Mar. All these paintings have been declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest – Archaeological Zone (BCIN) and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These caves remain CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC to enhance their conservation.
