Ca la Torre, located in the old quarter of Vandellòs, was initially a defensive tower dating from the 16th century. The towers were essential for spotting and protecting the population from the frequent attacks of bandits or pirates from the coast.
Subsequently, the tower was repurposed to build a manor house, owned by the Vernet family, and became the most important in the town. From the GilVernet lineage came the distinguished doctors Salvador GilVernet and Emili GilVernet.
The monument is a Cultural Asset of National Interest (BCIN) and currently houses an exhibition on the history of Vandellòs, as well as the historical municipal archive. The tower is open to visitors and the gardens are available for social and cultural events in a heritage, open-air setting.
